| no partners | | The road to the real trailhead was dry today. My Ford Focus made it fine. If you need the outhouse it's at the first trailhead .7 miles earlier. I wore shorts so my opinion may be biased. I hit the trail at 5:47AM and the temps were great. By the first mile I had saw 7 mule deer, saw a few Spotted Towwee's amongst other birds, a few cottontails, and had a pack of coyotes serenade me. Throw in some Pines,Juniper, Oak and a couple nice views and the first half of this trail was pretty sweet. The back half was a totally different hike. You did have some views and one nice small section of Oak. The trail itself is overgrown and the two middle miles are faint in spots. This is where the shorts were not a good idea. My legs got roughed up and I hit the deck a couple times. This side had a million grasshoppers too. No shade on this side either although I started early enough to beat the heat. I didn't see anyone for the first ten miles. After that they showed up in pairs about 10 of them and one group of 6. There was also a survey guy set up a 100 yards before back to my car so I obliged . I drove up the Jerome way and back the Prescott Valley way. I counted about 36 Antelope in the grasslands . Nice day on the mountain! |
