| no partners | | First recommendation: don't do this hike on a weekend if you can avoid it. There are people everywhere camping and on the trail (and more dogs than you can imagine). The track I posted is from Winfield, which is as far as you can go without 4WD. Stopping there adds nearly 4 miles to the hike, which is only about 6.5 miles from the TH. I was able to hitch a ride back down to my truck, from a nice couple from Boulder.
The road in is about 12 miles, some teeth jarring washboarding on the gravel road, but not difficult.
This is one beautiful hike. Nice trail all the way, forest canopy at the lower part, nice meadow and water flowing in the middle and steep climb (with switchbacks) at the end. Put this on your todo list. |
