| no partners | | Jared and I met up with his friend Cullen and his wife Emily for a short hike on the windward side of the island. Crouching Lion is the first portion of Pu'u Manamama, one of the most dangerous hikes on the island (comparable to Bowman's, if not worse). The hike leads up to the rock formation of the same name (Hawaiian: Kuahi'imakaokalani).
We made it up to the rock formation in no time with the help of some ropes. From here, we continued upwards a tiny bit more before chickening out. The ridges are very narrow, with incredibly high, steep drop-offs on both sides. Very little room for error!
I'd love to try this one again, preferably on a day when rain clouds aren't looming nearby (oh wait, that never happens). :] |
