This sulfur was coming from Halema'uma'u, an active crater within Kilauea. The trails within Kilauea were also closed. The closest we could legally get to the crater was by driving to the end of Crater Rim Drive and then jogging for a mile past the barricade to a little overlook. We weren't sure why this was open to travel on foot but not by car, but it made for a nice secluded little trip. :] |
