| no partners | | I meant for us to do the whole West Bend segment of the Ice Age Trail, but when I got home I realized we had only done the northern portion. Oops.
We started from a parking lot in the Glacial Blue Hills Recreation Area, and followed the yellow Ice Age Trail markers south. With no leaves on the trees yet, the moraine features were obvious. We came across a kettle right away, where I was happy to see lots of green! The trail meandered from esker to esker, mostly staying along the ridges. We reached Washington Street and saw no indication of where the trail might continue, and turned around. I spotted a deer from far off, who ran ahead. When we caught up with it again, it was in a large group with at least 15 other deer; most of them ran away, but a group of about 6 stood by while I took photos from a distance.
We passed our starting point and headed north. This time the trail mostly followed along the valley between 2 eskers; the one to our east almost looked like a man-made wall. We turned back when we reached County Road D, and made it back to the car just as it was starting to rain. |
