| no partners | | This was the first hike of our road trip from LA to Milwaukee. We had planned on going to Sequoia and Kings Canyon NPs, but fires in the area forced us to change our plans. After consulting with John for some last minute Yosemite recommendations, we decided to kick off our trip with this route!
The hike in was beautiful, and we both enjoyed the wide, smooth trails after a year of being limited to muddy jungle trails! Jared struggled a bit with his military pack, which was designed to be rugged at the expense of ergonomics. We took our time, taking several breaks to readjust and transfer weight.
We made it to the lake just before 3, which gave us plenty of time to set up camp, wash off, filter water, and start planning the rest of our visit. The views over the lake were beautiful as the sun set, and we built a fire once it was dark.
The hike out was uneventful; we started around 6 and reached the trailhead just after noon. We found a campsite for the night, then drove back up to the scenic overlook to grab some views of half dome around sunset. What a park! |
