| no partners | | It had been a long time in planning for this hike, first due to me living in NM, then the hot summer, and finally, continued rain. I finally got over to the east side of the Rincons to hike this. It was pretty nice, and surprisingly moist with lots of running water. The views from the top were good, but it made me want to hike some of the other Rincon hikes. The worst part was the serious gnat infestation in the low valley in the middle of the hike, and I attribute that to the moisture. Aside from the views, virtually every part of this hike reminded me of somewhere else, mostly stuff in the Catalinas, but some other places, too. Totally empty out here, though.
While today was not actually humid for local standards, as the dew point in Tucson was in the high 40s all day, there was a lot of soil moisture and running water out here. It ended up feeling a lot like my hike in San Diego County in February, with a moist feeling on my skin throughout the day. This is better for the vegetation, though. It was the total opposite of what I expected, and then when I got down along the lower parts of Miller Creek, there were an enormous amount of calling insects and/ or amphibians. That was pretty enjoyable. |
