| no partners | | My 86th summit of Humphrey was to be on a day with spectacular weather. It just doesn't get much better than this, up there. The color is just starting, and this week will probably be the peak of it. Only slightly crowded on top, and there was a little odd creature getting people's attention up there.
I thought I would do more than just hike down the main trail, so I started down the Weatherford intending to come back and then return. However, once at Fremont Saddle, I dropped down the south face in a slide path and started towards the Kachina Trail. It was nice, but I was very tired by the time I reached the Kachina, and the return trip was a little much. Still, I can't think of better conditions on the Peaks, and it wasn't even winter.
The San Francisco Peaks are great, and today gave me my time on a big mountain that I was unable to get this year, since I moved back to AZ and wasn't able to go to Colorado or northern New Mexico. It had been a long time since I was on the upper Weatherford and I really enjoyed being out on it. Calm clear sunny air, no sounds of people (unlike on trail #151) and just the sound of birds with one distant Elk bugle. It was great. |
