| no partners | | I hoped to do another peak farther out after Peaks 5356 & 5325 while I was out this far, but adding another slow 3 mile round-trip drive to an expected 90 minute drive back to Punkin Center I'd probably be driving out after sunset so I opted to pick this one up on the drive out.
Barely a mile from the closest spot along FR 649 and not much of a climb I expected this to be a quick jaunt. That lasted only until I saw the first half-mile up close and personal... ](https://hikearizona.com/dex2/images/smilies/eusa_wall.gif "Brick wall")
It was pretty much a cat's-claw thicket with buckhorn, prickly-pear, agave and pin-cushions thrown in for good measure, in other words pant-leg shredding territory. Although I hadn't used them in a year or so, luckily my chaps were in the Jeep. Good thing, because they allowed my to pass through much of the brush with reasonable haste. Other than that the main obstacles of the hike were the two fences I had to pass through. I spent a good 1/4 of the out trip looking for a place to cross and finally found a spot low enough to step over.
From there it was a short steep climb to the summit. Another wide, flat summit so I wandered around for the 360 photos. A quick descent and I decided to follow a different return route, only to have to search for another spot to pass through the fence. Being such a solid fence it took some doing, but I found one spot I could slide under it after taking my pack off.
(Where's a limbo smiley when you need it?)
The rest of the return trip was just a matter of avoiding the cattle that I managed to spook earlier or was it they spooked me?), and of course back through the worst of the thick and thorny brush.
