| no partners | | After the four-hour ascent of Kings Crown Peak climb followed by the half-hour Peak 5300 hike I had only one more of the easy peaks left to do in the Superior Quadrangle.
Again the drive was worse than the hike... barely 3 miles along Forest Road 342 took 41 minutes, and I wasn't exactly taking it easy. The erosion made some sections quite treacherous with 50 to 500-foot drops sometimes mere inches away. Yup, the stress from the fear-factor took more out of me than the hike itself.
I parked within a quarter-mile of the summit so even though it was a much steeper slope than the previous Peak 5300, I was at the summit in 9 minutes, including a stop for a few deer photos.
Cool! I like these short climbs to balance out the tough ones.
Up at the summit I took the photos and video but again, like Peak 5300, there was more to see across to the west end of the long summit. And again the extra jaunt was well worth it for the views down into the canyon to the west, as well another chance at deer photos, this time a young buck and a doe, just staring at me. Yeah, even during the video they didn't so much as flicker an ear.
For those who may catch the reference, the doe was giving me a Scooby-Do-like duh!
