| partners | | Instead of a hike the long and more-or-less flat hike of yesterday, our first of three hikes today it would be short but sweet... whoops, I mean steep. And if we thought we had only have bits of thick brush here-and-there like yesterday? Nothing doing! It was one solid mass of vegetation all the way up. But again the saving grace was the numerous elk trails, when we could find them... the trails that is, not the elk.
However, Tracey did spot an elk early on in the climb. Unfortunately, instead of just turning on her camera and taking the shot, she calls out to me Mark, Mark and by time I respond what? the elk bounds off. Don't worry about telling me to look, see the elk, just take the shot... if you do then I'll be able to see if for sure!
Or just say elk to the left.
At the summit we found a benchmark but as thick at the brush was we were unable to locate any Reference Marks. Being placed in 1907 who knows what vegetation has grown up since. (When I got home I tried to locate a Datasheet to get an idea where the Reference Marks may have been, I find absolutely no listing for either the altitude or Chalk so I'm a bit baffled)
As penance for Tracey not being concise for her elk sighting, I handed her a compass and told her she could guide us back. After all, the compass worked better than the compass on my Garmin 62ST (Hmmm, maybe ST means STupid!) 
And she found her (our) way back to the Jeep.
