My favorite part of the actual hike was the Marshal Gulch trail, where the Fall colors were on display. We found a choice campsite a couple miles down the WOR trail, very roomy and shaded by old-growth ponderosas. The creek was nearby to the north and the beautiful boulders and views were available to the south.
Surprisingly, we didn't see many people while back there. We greeted by Preston around 9am Saturday morning, and spent the day finding/enjoying Lemmon Pools (and also fixing Blair's boot, which lost its sole). And of course there was the obligatory partaking in whiskey and BSing. All the elements of a quality backpacking trip!
We left around 10am Sunday and treated ourselves to Thunder Mountain Brewery where we were surprised to find Preston and his girlfriend! A burgers and beer later, we sleepily made our way back to Phoenix. I love ending trips that way! |
