My fellow Grand Canyon Amigo John Domaska was in town teaching his friend Catheryn how to climb. They had spent a couple days in the Queen Creek/Devils Canyon area. He sent me a note saying that Weavers Needle was on his list and wanted to know if I was interested in joining him. Duh!

Anyway we met up at Peralta TH today at 7:30 and we all headed out. The plan was for us to go up and Cathryn would wait for us at the base. I asked John if he planned to take a rope or not and he said he didn't think he would need it. (He was right about that)

As we made our way up to the base on the western side we saw a large sheep up on the ledge of Weavers. There were a couple of them plus a baby. Super cool! After trying to get some photos of the sheep we continued on. Cathryn said how far should I follow you guys? I replied "as far as you feel comfortable".

Up the crack we went. First me, then Cathryn, then John. At one point I had to take a step back and take a second look. It was what I had remembered and up I went. I chose to go under the stone as I am not comfortable enough without a rope to go over. Then John came and climbed to the left of the stone right up and over. Shortly later Cathryn came up and she went under the stone. From there it was easy breezy to the top. Weather was awesome so we chilled out for about 15 minutes and took it all in.

For the way down we decided it would be best for Catheryn (and probably me too) to exit on the east side. We free climbed down and then made our way over to the cross cut trail.

From here it was back on the Peralta and an easy trip back to the trailhead.

It was great to finally meet John in person as we have been communicating since before I did Isis. My hat is off to Cathryn as she is just learning to climb and she was solid as a rock on this one.

I'm hoping to do Weavers again sometime this year. The experience is just that awesome!

Good times!
