My goal for the day was to just have fun and attempt snowshoeing for the first time.

Chatting with a guy and his dog in the parking lot, he told us he had snowshoed the week prior. He said there would be enough snow to go up Dutchman Glade, or we could use our micro spikes and go up the main trail, which is what he was doing.

Following Jim H's track, we learned, you could go up under the chairlift and then cut into the Summit Trail right at the sign in box. We had always gone in lower, by the wilderness sign. We signed in and then put on our spikes. We quickly arrived at the first switchback and headed out to the Glade. We put on the snowshoes and the fun began.

We followed footprints up, must be BobP and OdinWiski prints! My "fun" quickly turned to just trying to make two miles. Wow, that is work! Before the Bomber crash, another snowshoer came in off the main trail. We got past the Bomber and I was really slowing us down. I told Karl, that I was not planning on making the summit, but I knew he was not going to leave with unfinished business. I sent him on ahead. I made it to just above treeline. I watched the other snowshoer go across the ridgeline, then the guy and his dog from the parking lot and then there was Karl gaining on them.

The wind was getting to be too much, so I headed back into the trees and found a sunny spot. I sat and sunned and read and it wasn't long until Karl was back. We had a nice break with wine and cheese. It really was a beautiful spot.

I came down in my spikes, but Karl used the snowshoes. We went into the Humphrey's trail just below the Bomber Crash and followed the trail down, both of us in our spikes.
