On the cliffs near the falls, we got to see a couple of red tail hawks playing in the sky above. They darted around like a couple of planes in a dog fight. One dived at the other in a fascinating display of their predatory skill, only to be denied as the other skirted away at the last second. We watched them for about 10 minutes before they resumed their deliberate circling pattern, searching for a snack down below.
The hills near the conical butte just beyond the fence line were covered with blooming brittle bush. Combined with the lush green landscape, it was a beautiful sight to see. Desert mallow was also plentiful along this section and the rest of the way to the falls area. Hedgehog cactus was in full bloom near and on the cliffs.
Very little traffic on the trail. We saw a pair of hikers that were on their way back just as we reached the cliffs. On our return route, we passed a dozen or so hikers from a meetup group, but it was pretty quiet otherwise. I'm sure it was a lack of recent rain, but it was also a little warmer than usual. |

Wildflowers Observation Moderate Light along most of the trail, but moderate to substantial with brittle bush and desert mallow near the conical butte. |
