| no partners | | I'd been wanting to do this for some time, paddle from Shelter Island in San Diego Harbor out to the end of Point Loma. I grew up in Point Loma. But this was a special day, the day my son's ship, the USS Boxer, would be coming into port after two weeks of training at sea.
We saw harbor seals, sea lions, and lots of birds, including flocks of pelicans, cormorants, and of course, sea gulls. When we got out to the end of the Point the swells seemed pretty big to me! This time I had a kayak skirt someone had loaned me.
The folks I was paddling with are the three I am going to Baja with this week. They're all better paddlers than I am, so I hope to learn something.
After paddling back to Shelter Island we paddled into America's Cup Harbor to get fresh fish tacos at Mitch's Seafood. There is a sandy beach there for the boats. I had done this with them before, last year.
Afterward I drove out to Cabrillo National Monument, and used my new Senior Pass (formerly known as a Golden Age Pass) to get in. I went for a hike out there. I will post that up when I have time. |
