| no partners | | I decided to check out the foothills of this mountain range. This is an interesting range, but I really didn't get "inside" of it. I wasn't sure my car could make it down the road I was on, so I just parked and started hiking. I cut across the grain of the bajada, going up and down and up and down the ridges and washes. There were a few old mining relics.
I got to almost the last ridge nearest the higher part of the range, but felt sort of dizzy. It was kind of hot. So I went back down to the wash to sit in the shade, drink water and eat. That's when I noticed my old Raichle boots I just recently resurrected were starting to come apart.
I took the easy way back, hiking down the wash and across the flats to the road, and up the road. While hiking on the road my left boot's sole came loose in front. After shaking out the gravel I tied it together with parachute cord. Now I know why I have been carrying that piece of parachute cord in my pack for years!
From the ridges I could see the Topock Marsh where I paddled 13 miles yesterday. I could see a lot, in fact. The views from the peaks must be astonishing. |
