| no partners | | I thought I posted something in this area last year, but I guess not. If I still have it in Basecamp, I'll add it. This loop can be started either at the Henry Clay Furnace parking lot, from the Coopers Rock parking lot or (if the lake isn't too high, which is my normal starting point) at Mont Chateau. Coopers Forest is a premier, beautiful hiking destination near Morgantown, WV (where my mother-in-law lives). I do something in this area every time we visit. You couldn't get more different from Southern AZ. The forest is dense with tall trees, rhododendrons, and ferns. Did I mention the humidity? You only see rays of sun even on the sunniest day. Highlights include views of the Cheat Lake at the bottom, the historic furnace near the middle, a stream with small falls all along, and expansive views from Coopers Rock at the top. Nice trail but go on a weekday. Big biking spot, and cross country skiing in winter. |
