Excellent hike. I don't know that I've seen such intense rock folding and colorful at that. I understand that this area is a geologist's dream for the diversity of features and color. The writeup that Elisabeth gave us uses words like, "Barnhardt Thrust", "mullions", "chevron folds", "axial-plane cleavage", "Miocene Gravels", and "Deadman Quartzite". Don't know what any of this means, but it is beautiful. Road in is not too bad; could make it in a car if road isn't wet. We turned around at the falls, which are outstanding in their own right. Lots of flowers and blooming plants, seemed almost tropical and lush due to rains the night before.
