| no partners | | I did a little research and had a plan to get to this Sinaguan ruin. Directions are not readily available in an internet search and I try not to contribute to search indexing by using it's porcine Latin name.
First problem was getting past the ranger's roadblock on Fossil Creek Rd. Luckily he was a nice guy who recognized the name of my destination. I told him I had no plan to go to Fossil Creek and he feigned surprise that I didn't want to drink a 30pack and jump off a cliff. I had to consider this for a minute.
Anyway further down the road I found the ruins where I expected them to be. The complex covers three nearby hilltops and there are many collapsed rooms. The northern-most hill (the "castle" I guess") has at least 20 rooms right on the hill top and a prominent defensive wall on the front side. Continuing along to the second hill via the little saddle I ran across a large, flat, partially rock-lined area which looked man-made. A plaza? A tennis court?
The second hill has a rocky spine running E-W. I saw some overgrown ruins at the highpoint but more at the lower end.
I continued on to a small hill and was surprised to see it had at least 10 collapsed rooms.
Plenty of pottery pieces throughout this whole area but I didn't notice any petroglyphs or metates.
Heading out at ~1:30 there was a string of cars and trucks moving toward Fossil Creek - the rangers were waving them on - guess the crowds were OK. |
