With Lynn, Hannah, and Skippy as we first explored a large loop trail through the aspen groves and onto Hart Prairie via FR9004L Road Closure and then traveled further along FR151 to the Bismarck Lake Elk Preserve via FR627.
We were perfectly timed to hide in an abandoned cabin off the FR9004L Road Closure as a rain shower passed through. No lightning, no thunder. Just some refreshing moisture! There was a great view from the top of a small crater near the south side of the open Hart Prairie.
We weren't as perfectly timed as we approached Bismarck Lake. We couldn't confirm if the "lake" actually has water in it this time around. A torrential downpour forced us to turnaround and beat a hasty path back to the truck. Still a great hike with no elk, but plenty of deer!
I've been "toying" with the idea of going on the Sunday ranger-guided at the Hart Prairie Nature Conservancy. Witness the Forum Post - http://hikearizona.com/dex2/viewtopic.php?t=2861
We couldn't get ourselves to Flagstaff at the designated 10am meeting time, so maybe next time... |
