Plenty of fungi out from the monsoon rains and even came across some deer and elk (in an elk preserve no less). Bismarck Lake had some water in it this time (unlike a previous visit http://hikearizona.com/phoZOOM.php?ZIP=35013) and the meadow is full of wildflowers. The dog personally recommends Bismarck Lake as a swimming hole. We elected to take Skippy's recommendation at face value and declined joining him!
Hart Prairie, and Bismarck Lake in particular, seems to be a hidden gem isolated away from the weekend crowds. Let's just say the deer and elk outnumbered the people by at least 10 to 1.
Traveled later in the day to Government Prairie in search of the historic Beale Wagon Road (but that's another triplog)...
Refreshing day with temps in the upper 70's and rain showers all around us (but not on us!). Got back to the valley around midnight and thermometers were still indicating +100 degrees (yikes!)... |
