| no partners | | Happy to see more of Mesa Verde. I followed some existing tracks until their end 1.8 miles later, then broke trail further into the canyon. Around the 3 mile point, I crossed from the east side of the canyon to the west and began the trip back. My thermometer read 20 degrees and the wind had picked up so I threw on another layer and heavier gloves before resuming the slog. It was cold!
Had a hard time managing layers and kept overheating. I was completely out of energy with 3/4 of a mile to go so I tapped out, made a b-line for the road, and carried the showshoes the rest of the way. If I had another mile on top of that I might have been in trouble. I also missed the memo about snowshoeing on XC ski trails.  |
