Parked at 33.249479 -112.300466 to save a little bit of walking. I took the same route as Kelly and Johnlp, just with a different starting point. johnr1 and I also used the same wash on our descent in 2012 - thought about that trip a lot today. The wash seems to be the best route up, in my opinion. A couple bypasses were required (subjective), but it's very straightforward. I passed a group of 4 young-ish kids (high school, I presume) on the way up. I completely forgot about driving by their vehicle on the way in. The wind really picked up once I was exposed on and around the ridges. Reached the peak in either 2h 15m or 2h 35m. What a wonderful feeling to finally get this one taken care of. Took the same route down. Had to bee-line once because of some Bs that weren't there on the way up. I can't lie, the last mile or so I just wanted the hike to be over. The bottom of my left foot developed a nickel-sized blister and I was tired of hopping over boulders. It really warmed up once the cloud cover was gone. |
