| no partners | | Thought about switching out winter hikers after first lap. I didn't think I'd need them for the rest of the hike, but I was wrong. Above 9000' the snow was deep in places. On the way back from Crystal Creek reservoir on Ring the Peak there was about 2 miles of 6-12" of snow. I took the back route to the reservoir and was surprised by the amount of snow on the way back. Planned on taking Crystal trail down to cable falls and back up, but it became apparent after about 100 yards with spikes there was no way in Hades I would make it down the trail to GMF. The entire trail and switchbacks had about a foot of slushy snow and I couldn't get traction with spikes. Ice is starting to melt at the reservoir. The remaining ice is still pretty thick.
On a side note almost every section trail or no trail had trees with orange paint or flags all recent? |
