| no partners | | Went back up to the northern area of the McDowell Sonoran Preserve to do some more trails I haven't done yet. I decided to start from the Brown's Ranch Road Trailhead this time while the sun is still rising earlier and the gate there doesn't open until sunrise. For most of the morning the sky was overcast and there were some drops of rain on and off. This cooled the weather off, which I appreciated. Seems like last summer all my Sunday hikes were in blazing heat, this summer wasn't so bad.
From the TH I took the Brown's Ranch Road Trail to the Hawknest Trail, then headed north and turned right onto the Broken Spoke Trail. from there I headed east on the High Desert Trail and then south on the Divide Trail, west on the Cholla Mtn Loop Trail, north on Stagecoach, west on same section of the High Desert Trail I just hiked, then south on the High Desert Trail, then took the Corral Trail and Brown's Ranch Road Trail back to the TH.
Along the Divide and Stagecoach Trails, there were signs for the North Diablo and South Diablo Trails, which seems to be a more difficult trail that loops back onto the Divide Trail and also has a connecting trail to the Stagecoach Trail. Just north of the junction of the Divide and Branding Iron Trails, there was also another trail that headed east into the unmarked area of the lastest map.
Saw mostly mountain bikers again, the only other hikers I noticed were in the distance, hiking on a different trail than me. Finished with a total of 12.9 miles for the morning, just shy of a half marathon. |
