I headed in basically to get a GPS route. Turned out to be an awesome hike. I spent too much time climbing on the sandstone at the saddle and ended up running back in the setting sun, about forty minutes down.
The Brins Fire completely torched the forest from the saddle down to the highway. Definitely looks like one of those "after" pictures. On a more positive note Sterling Canyon is only half torched, on the Wilson Mtn side. Which actually gives new red rock views.
The Vultee Arch viewing area is extra red now as it was slurry bombed. The red hue on the trees is color matched to the red rocks
Best news being a sliver of forest survived in upper Sterling Canyon. The maples and oaks are currently in Autumn foliage! (tiny section) |
