The trail was great, despite some complaints in the register. The first mile was a little bland and warm, however, the last mile, or so through the pine forest is very pleasant, as are the views. In fact, the views are what makes this hike in my opinion. One gets some tremendous views of the rolling hills in the area, several lava flows, Mt. Logan Wilderness and of course the Grand Canyon. Eventually, the peaks in Flag also come into the picture, creating an amazing and pretty unique view from the southern end of the summit. We did not see a register, but did not really look for one either and just enjoyed a nice snack on the top, as we thought about our 60 mile drive back to pavement. We thought about exiting the area via St. George Utah, which came highly recommended, but instead opted for CO 5 back the way we came in.
Trumbell seems to get a decent amount of visitors from the register and we did run into a pretty large group/sect from Utah on our way down, but by no means did it take away from the experience, or feeling of remoteness. |
