Bright Angel to Plateau Point...

This trip was intended to introduce my boss at work to the Grand Canyon. He pulled out, so my wife and twin boys joined me and my bro-in-law. They quickly shanghaied it. I was all for roughing it and spending as much time on the trail as possible to get many stereo-photos as possible. It went bad as we were loading the car and my wife came out with a wallet of memory cards and asked if I had the batteries... "Yes, hun, I have all batteries charged." Proceed with loading... long drive...we arrive Tusayan at about 9:30pm, and then they ask "can we stay in a hotel tonight?" I humor them and we find all hotels full. So back to my plan to camp in Mather Campground... starry night, filled with whisps of smoke from a controlled burn very close by. Nice restful sleep, after threatening the boys in the tent to within an inch of their lives if they wouldn't stop wrestling... wake up to the sound of the van starting, check watch (05:30)... my bro in law froze during the night and was attempting to thaw... break camp and retrieve the stove and water for cocoa and oatmeal (Dad's trail staples)... rolling of eyes from the rest... "can we eat some real food?" We go over to the Cafe for 'breakfast'... all served out of warmer drawers (Bleh)... we park at top of Bright Angel and I begin to assemble my dual SLR camera mount and ask my wife for a memory card... "I asked if you had enough memory while we were loading the car and you said 'Yes' so I put them back in the house"... Blood pressure rising "YOU asked if I had batteries and I told you that all were charged!" One camera stays in the car and she promptly grabs the other... so much for that idea!

Hike down to Plateau Point with the newbies - 3.5hrs with a break at 3-mile (where my blood pressure retruns to normal) and then got stuck between two mule trains. Bro in law trail runs out to pipe spring beach and back and meets us near the creek to hike out to the Pt. He is nearly trampled by a Bighorn ram. 1/2hr at the Point (doing my best Chevy Chase "Vacation"). 3 hours out and drive back to Phx.

Fun trip, even with the typical mis-queues.
