| no partners | | Sixshooter Canyon Trail and Copper Hill ghost town hikes.
I woke up late, left my campsite at Una Del Oso trailhead, got my pack ready among the pines, and started up Sixshooter Trail from the Pioneer Pass Road crossing point. Blazing red and yellow maples, and golden oaks filled the canyon in many places. I would say they are slightly past peak, but still very colorful. I saw one other hiker along the way, a friend of a friend, and two mountain bikers, otherwise the trail was deserted. Sixshooter Canyon is totally bone dry, which surprised me. Wanting to do another hike later in the day, I chose the old road near the sawmill as my turn around point, reluctantly. Enjoyed a few minutes of hammock time among the pines on the way down, and then made my way into Globe to finish out my Globe-Miami weekend trip.
Finished off my day of hiking by exploring and rock hounding around the ghost town of Copper Hill, in the hills above Globe. A few concrete foundations of the old mill buildings, etc, lie scattered in the canyon. Interesting geology in this area. |
