Cruised up Dead Horse on the climber’s trail to where the trail essentially ended at the 3700’ fork in the canyon. Beyond there I just followed cairns to my turn around time at the 3800’ contour (turnaround time is always too soon on my evening hikes). Table Mountain loomed directly above me. I could stare at that rugged peak in awe all day (and sometimes do). Dead Horse Canyon is pretty torched from the Bighorn Fire (we just can’t have nice things). Plus side of that though is that navigation is pretty simple now, and I did not see any of the invasive fountain grass clumps growing in the creek bed now. Saw one metate and a mortar hole, too. |
