This south side spur canyon in the Dog drainage (S3) is more of a ladder of bedrock, rather than the usual stairstep. It mixes in some large boulders to keep the climbing constant. Rock drama abounds, especially upon reaching the upper falls. The primary face is not viable. Moving over a bit to the East... a climbable slide... but not safe, at least not without setting ropes.
Today, we wanted to check out a connecting drainage further around to the East, so we followed the cliff base around to the obvious slot fault. Over grown, but doable. Nice climbs mixed in... no exposure! Exited right where we thought we would. Alas. did not get pics of the slot climb... hands were a bit busy!
Exited the Dog Canyon trail... short mileage but scored nearly four hours of great exercise!
Celebrated on top with Ross's applesauce muffins... |
