| no partners | | Been awhile since we explored the various cuts on the west end of Burlison Ridge... scored the Tuff Fault a few weeks ago. Today, the idea was to hit one closer to the housing development... one we had not done before.
Hiking over, the ground rocks in the scrub was exceptional... had to start loading up the pack early on! We approached the cut on an adjacent side ridge... and that might have been the reason I did not note that we had done this cut last year! It seemed familiar once in the canyon... but not too familiar... at least until we entered the fault section. It was an exact match for our earlier hike. It was our hike of last year!
Heavy rains the day before made the conglomerated areas unstable... rocks and softened dirt make for a dangerous mix. I had a large boulder break out from under my foot... leaving me hanging oddly below a precarious climb. It had the effect of putting the others in an apprehensive mood. We skipped the climbed and I cleared a path up through the bottom of the fault... more collapsing rocks but we avoided injury. Once it drys out we now have a safer ascending path!
This is one nice cut... great rock... nice variety... interesting challenges. With a rope along there would be a variety of play areas. Alas, not today.
Once up and out we proceeded to loop the upper cliff edge. Ross thought we might have descended the canyon to the south... checked out... I don't think so. We hiked all the way over to Lynda's Cut... then headed down a small canyon that we had skirted the last time up. I could not place where it would intersect Arrow North... did not expect it would amount to much.
I was wrong!
Continual bedrock with moderated step downs the entire way to the bottom! Great little cut (Left Cut) and the best descending route imaginable. I look forward to hitting it again to see how it feels climbing up and in!
So... all round great day... and Mary got the Fault named after her! |
