I haven't been out for almost a week due to illness and wanted to get some decent hiking in and get the dog to some water. First one in the lot at 6:30. Still a very bright moon out. Just a few very small pools in First Water. Garden Valley might be one of the most beautiful areas of all the Superstitions after a good rain. It was so green with grass everywhere. Almost want to lay right down in it, except for, you know, all of the cholla. A lot of rabbits bouncing around out there. Also saw another Arizona Cardinal. Made the way down the very rocky path to Second Water where there were several larger pools. Arriving at the Boulder Canyon and Second Water junction, I could hear the creek flowing pretty good. Found some legit camp spots down creek a bit. Also saw a stange looking gravemarker. Stopped here for lunch and to let Gabby play in the water. I wish I had more time to spend all day out there. Headed back up the rocky hill and through Garden Valley where I saw the first people of the day and the first of about 6 groups of older hikers headed up the trail after them. Excellent weather out today, just a few light sprinkles.
** I followed what looked like dirtbike tracks from the TH all the way to the rocky section before Garden Valley. I dont know if there was a rescue out there recently using that bigwheel thing or not but it was unpleasant to see. |
