My local hiking club was trekking Josephine Canyon today and I joined them for the first 2.5 miles of their hike up the Old Baldy Trail to Josephine Saddle. As our group of 9 was taking a break at the saddle, I felt Mt. Wrightson "calling" so off I went solo to the top. My "obsession" with Mt. Wrightson got me again!

Summit visibility was good considering all the recent wind. The temperature on top was pleasant with a light breeze. There were many flies buzzing about but they were not biting (they looked like house flies). Upon opening the summit logbook this entry from yesterday immediately caught my eye:

"350 times to this place of serenity. Happy Trails, Bob Williams". (BTW, Bob is 81 years young!) :app:

I missed Bob's 350th by a day, darn :(. George and Anna, who are right on Bob's heels count-wise, also signed in yesterday.

Upon my descent I passed about a dozen hikers that were heading up to the summit. As I approached Josephine Saddle I thought I might bump into my hiking friends again on their way back from Josephine Canyon but no dice. I noticed that their cars were still in the parking lot upon my return to the Roundup.

...just another crummy day in the Sonoran Desert :y:

A number of small yellow wildflowers are blooming in the rocks along the north switchbacks above Baldy Saddle. Otherwise all I saw today was a single Indian Paintbrush in bloom on the lower Old baldy Trail.

Water dripping from the pipe into the trail side reservoir which was full. The pipe is fragile so if no water trail side go up the drainage about 50' to the small pool below the waterfall. There is usually plenty of water there for dipping out.
