That way you are 2/3rds done by the time you get to the lookout tower. The tower was closed. I started early for cooler weather, less crowds, possible wildlife sightings, and I'm a morning person . I started about 5:30AM and got in 3 plus miles before the sun starting shinning on me. The trail is in great shape with lots of trees and some boulders mixed in. This is really a nice trail. I enjoyed it. I only saw one person for the first 2/3rds of the hike then 20 or so and 3 dogs the last 1/3rd. I saw some Spotted Towhee, a big woodpecker, and lots of other birds. I saw Muledeer 4 times with a total of 9. Saw a few healthy looking squirrels. When I was on the ridge I saw something walking towards me so I froze. A fox got closer to me then I thought he would. He started walking a log and scared a big woodpecker. The bird flew in the tree squawking while the fox dove under the log. Kind of funny. He came out and started walking the log again then saw me and jogged off. My last wildlife sighting was a clucking Turkey on the way down. I enjoyed this trip and topped it off with a slice of apple pie(topped off) at Rock Springs Cafe! |
