Jim was in town for Thanksgiving, so he wanted to do a hike. We agreed on this one since it's centrally located and close enough to everyone. Wally also decided to join us for this one. Two days before the hike, Donovan sent me a message to ask if he could join since I had it on the calendar as a wishlist item. The four of us and Jim's college buddy Jamey rounded out the group. It was nice to hike with a larger group than what I've been doing lately. We decided to do this one counter-clockwise, I figured that would maximize our shade for the day.

I did this hike 8.5 years ago, but I didn't save the GPS track, so it was an excuse to do it again. The first time I did it, I remember on the way up the Bell Trail having to stop and catch my breath. Today, I was able to push through all the way to Bell Pass. all the extra miles I've been hiking this year seem to have paid off.

Up to Bell Pass the shade was constant. From there we were in the sun on the east half of the loop, and got mostly shaded again on the way down from Windgate Pass. Once we got past the junction for the Gateway Loop Trail, the hordes were in full force. The closer we got to the trailhead, the smaller the kids and puppies got. The last two miles, I went into Wally-mode and turned on the jets. It seems as though my dexterity has improved walking faster over rocky terrain on a downward slope.

I looked at the pics I took 8.5 years ago with my first digital camera, and the difference in the pics with the new camera is very evident. Both are Canons, but the technology has really improved. Nice to see the difference.

After the hike we took a ride up to Growler USA near Desert Ridge for lunch. Had a very nice lunch to top off a very nice hike. Also enjoyed watching Pitt knock off #2 Miami. And they also had the Penguins game on. It was hard for me to watch both games and also have conversations with everyone, but somehow it all worked out.

Nice to meet Donovan and hike with everyone else again. Fun holiday weekend hike and lunch afterwards. .
