| no partners | | Went out to Skyline RP for the first time. Got started before dawn at about 6:35am, 32 degrees. Hiked the first mile in the dark got over two miles in before the direct sunlight was on me. From the main TH, I took the Bridge Bypass Trail to the Granite Falls Trail, then hiked the Chuckwalla Trail all the way and back around to the top end of the Granite Falls Trail again. then took the Turnbuckle Trail up to the Valley Vista Trail, where I went up to the peak and got some good views. It was interesting to see different views of the Estrellas, and be able to see farther west than I normally can. The views of the Supes, 4Peaks, Mazzies and Camelback were the same, but much smaller. At one point I had a view of Red Mountain by Fountain Hills just beyond Camelback. The wind was blowing pretty good up top, making put the hoodie up a necessity.
From the peak I took the Turnbuckle to the Mountain Wash Trail, then the Lost Creek to the Quartz Mine Trail and back to the TH. Didn't see any hikers until I was nearly to the high end of the Turnbuckle Trail, then there were a bunch. Saw some new trail construction and signs indicating that, so it looks like there will be more trails here in the years to come. Nice to get out and check out a new area I've never been to before. |
