Cloudy and cool at the start , parking lot was at least 1/2 full, gateway loop was busy , quite a few dogs leading their hikers here, went out CCW on the loop to the Bell Pass Trail ,first time taking it . BPT was less busy only meeting 6 hikers and or runners coming down and 0 dogs. Quite windy at the Pass , saw no more hikers until windgate pass , I guess many go up and down to Bell Pass and skip the loop. Enjoyable views to the northeast though 4 peaks remained under its cloudy blanket. The stretch from the windgate pass trail junction to windgate pass provided surprising solitude for a holiday. Made a stop at inspiration point, noticed a petroglyph sharing a rock inscribed with an 1842 date , not sure about the year but the day was likely ,4/1 ! Started seeing more crowd as I headed back to gateway loop trail which I took over gateway saddle to return to the busy trailhead. |
