I've scoured that area for ruins several times over the last 5 years but I couldn't remember searching that particular ridge. After crossing Chalk Canyon on CC #4 I started off trail up the hillside but soon realized I was running out of energy and time so turned around. It was then that I spotted a small ruin hidden in the brush. It was the crumbled down rock walls of a small two room habitation on the edge of a flat terrace like area. The terrace had a low rock retaining wall on the down hill side. There was a second terrace above this one. Small pottery sherds littered the bare surface of the terrace. After getting back home I compared the location of this find with the master gps file of ruin locations I've found over the years. This was a new one (for me). Certainly not a major find but helps to fill in the picture of what appears to have once been a fairly well populated area along the hillside above Cave Creek. |
