| no partners | | Hiked up to the west side of Cave Creek Canyon below Black Mesa to search for signs of Indian habitation. I had attempted to search this area before but took a more difficult route and ran out of energy before I got up to my target search area. This time I was successful in reaching the target area but found no sign of Indian ruins. However I did find one pottery sherd site and two small fairly insignificant rock ruin sites on the way up the hillside so it wasn't a complete bust. This now makes a total of 108 sites I've located in Cave Creek Canyon over the last 5 years. I also checked out Lewis Spring which I thought may have been developed as a cattle watering hole. It most likely was named for John Lewis who homesteaded the 6L Ranch in the bottom of the canyon. However no sign of surface water or a cattle watering trough. |
