It resides in the Fossil Springs Wilderness and boasts some dynamic sweeping views of Calf Pen and Sandrock Canyon depending on what side you're on.
The hearty 4x4 road abruptly ends 1/4 mile earlier than marked on topo but I loved it because it keeps the lazy ones away.
From there experienced route finding will certainly help out because since it becomes a bit vague but there is definitely a marked trail that leads down to "The Pocket".
The 600ft drop with a shining sun was awesome, it had to be a solid 15° warmer than my starting point near a frozen cattle tank in the dense pine forest.
Basked in the sun and took a wannabe nap and then made a loop to be able to see Sandrock Canyon and then returned to the vista I found earlier that boasted the best views of Calf Pen for some windy sunset photos.
Made it back to the truck just before complete darkness greeted with 37° temperatures. |
