I took up an offer from Dallin & crew and we met in Flagstaff Saturday evening, after an interesting drive up from the valley. I-17 became icy from 6000ft and up. The car in front of me and SUV beside me lost control and smashed into each other. I skated through untouched. They were just a part of the collection of vehicles that spun out and into the trees and ditches. A few inches of powder fell overnight. Roads to the park were icy, but doable. No roads in the park had been plowed, but no entry fee, no rangers (as far as we could tell), and the buses were running. 20 degrees as we started down SK. Windy day from the top of the canyon, to the bottom. Trail was snow and mud the entire way. We bolted down and lunched with some deer company in the campground before crossing the river and starting up BA. Dallin wasn't looking forward to the climb out, but we set a nice pace and didn't need to break or put jackets on. The hike out was over fairly quickly. The upper portion of BA was much more icy than SK. We didn't need traction help for either. Fun day in the canyon.
