Accepted an invite to check out a cave I've never heard of, or even noticed while walking by. This allowed me to also walk a couple of stretches of trail in the area that I hadn't recently walked. We started out on Dutchman. Surprisingly quiet morning on the trail. We started seeing backpackers once on Whiskey Spring. The spring was lightly flowing and some decent pools had formed. This entire stretch of Whiskey was in great shape. Once in LaBarge via Red Tanks, we off-trailed it up to the cave. It's an impressive structure, but not useable for anything other than a wildlife hideout. Totally slanted floors give it a cathedral feel. I exited and enjoyed the canyon views while Brittany navigated the cave while attempting to stay upright. We headed back the way we came, and took an extended lunch break in the shade near Whiskey Spring. The rest of the return trip was in full sun, but a breeze and nice temps made it pleansant. All trails were in good shape and easy to follow. We didn't see any one on the trails during the second half of the hike. Surprising for such a nice day.
