| no partners | | I've been to the Gila Bend Mountains a couple times and like the clean, open, baked, undisturbed country. I'd noticed the SE ridge of Woolsey Peak and thought that would be a fun way to go up the mountain and walk in the nice Gila Bend Mountain desert.
I enjoyed the approach and ridge walk right up til the time I didn't. Though I'd looked at the ridge pretty carefully in advance I didn't expect that it would cliff out and become impassable for me. Oh well, that's what it did.
Not ready to go home yet I retreated and just decided to look around on the flats. I knew already I was unlikely to find any signs of the ancients (too far from water I guess) and I did not. I was a little bit intrigued by a faint trail through the area. Pretty clear it was not a regular hiker or migrant trail, but my guess is it heads north from the lower Gila River through a cleft in the range for anyone or thing that wants to head that way.
Oh well it was a nice day out. I don't like to go to work on my birthday. |
