A line in an archaeology paper caught my attention: (paraphrasing) "there is a nice petroglyph panel near the tank". So I thought it'd be worth a trip to go look around and it would probably be an easy day. I offset that though by forgetting my GPS and it turned into much more of a hike and a hunting trip than I expected.

There are a lot of E-W ridges that head up the hill from the east side of Seven Springs Rd. and my guess at the one I needed was wrong. Also that ridge kept curving the wrong way. No matter, the walking was pretty good and on a nice day it's fun to be able to look out to both sides and north and south - great views.

When I got to the area where the petroglyphs might be (2+ hours later than expected), I started searching in earnest and eventually found them. There is one really spectacular and unusual panel - obviously a special place to the people who made it. This location at the ridge top means this was probably along an ancient path between the Agua Fria and the Verde. Maybe this was the high road - the low road probably went along Lime Creek where there is a much larger collection of petroglyphs.

No GPS - distance is an estimate.
