The Sevenmile Mountains are a range of mountains north of Globe and east of Rte 60. The high point(s) of the range are on the western most mountain, and that’s what I climbed.

SSK44 wrote a very good HAZ description for this mountain, and I highly recommend reading it.
He explains (among other things), that yes, there’s alot of nasty vegetation on the way up, but if you’re patient, you can find short corridors of open space to get by most of the nasty stuff. When you think your surrounded, stop and look around. Chances are very good that you’ll find another opening. I did just that, and had very few ‘plant’ issues.

This turned out to be one of my all time favorite benchmark hikes. Surveyors named the benchmark, and the three other disks, ‘Seven’, back in 1938.
The top of the mountain is very wide, and about a mile long. In fact, it even has two summit logs on two separate high points. There’s all kinds of places to explore, plus the scenes in all directions are great. I spent alot of time roaming all over the place.

The surveyors set Seven Azimuth Mark in the most scenic location I have ever seen for an azimuth disk.
The mountain top is so expansive, they set the Seven Azimuth disk right on top of the mountain. It’s usually set off the mountain in some mundane location, but not this one.
The azimuth disk is in a group of huge boulders, located on the mountain’s cliff edge. Back in 1938, the surveyors must have been chuckling when they chose this location.

The temperature starting out was 25 degrees, and I was in the shade the entire time going up. The mountain itself was my ‘sun-umbrella’, as I was traveling easterly. The temp only got up to about 60 degrees on the way down, but the cooler temps never bothered me, as I was having so much fun.

If you are into off trail adventures, and enjoy hiking up mountains, put Sevenmile Mtns on your list. I suspect you’ll have a great experience.
