| no partners | | Why? I like to punish myself. It was chilly and windy with the threat of rain. Dressed warmly and, even with the heat of exertion, the chill poked through when I caught the wind just right in the canyons. Up to the Dobbins Lookout and back. Had company. About a dozen others on trail above the brown water tank where it turns steep, a spot less than serious hikers or joggers take a quick exit. Two teen-age boys playing rap on an I-pod turned around after going up above the tank about 50 yards. I didn't linger at Dobbins, fearing rain. Ducked into the stone shelter, made some notes, snapped a photo or two and started the return journey. Kept my eyes on the clouds to the north where I could see rain showers and virga up around Union Hills. Thankfully, the storm moved east, not south. This is not a trail I'd want to negotiate in the rain: Big slick rocks and muddy boot soles can make for a faster than anticipated descent. Was glad to get home by the fireplace. |
