| no partners | | Excitement consumed anticipation for the big hike of the week. Diligent focused training paid off. Managed to get a good night sleep and start refreshed!

Gangsters are full of poetic hellos.
Lost Ranch Mine Trail
Great rugged ridges. Nice if you enjoy desert landscape, which I do. Reminds me of the new south ridge of T Bone. Also more Quartz and Montezuma Estrella like vs East SoMo.
The Palos Verdes are a cicada symphony, it was friggin awesome!
Love a ridge that's so steep I'm in the shade at 8:10 a.m. Granted it only lasted a minute or two tops.
At the bottom in the washes is very similar to the backside of pie circ, including use-trails galore. Better ravines but not as swanky tight cool as being in the center of the sixth largest US city. Nevertheless a great place to sneak a pee!
Pyramid
Surprised a good half mile from Ranch jct is NPS freeway tread. Holy schniky I just got passed. Good thing I'm not competitive but AYFKM... yeah yeah, old guy slow poking the flats, head down, lugging a ridiculously heavy day pack... I get it but doubt he has a clue he just danced past a sleeper. Didn't smell nor mimic a sprinkler so I don't think he was Linda's sweat-stalker.
Got over excited, after a snazzy drop on Ranch Mine I expected more bite in this ascent. Obviously nothing in that old runner either. Passed back and cleared a quarter mile with little effort.
Telegraph
Birdy bath at the TH. Took advantage of the cold filtered water. Ran a half quart through my ice pack. Mixed up some lemonade. Enjoyed a lucky 13 minute break on my back on the new cement benches. Best to raise the legs over the heart but made due with the shade opportunity.
Radio Radio - Ode to Elvis Costello
Seriously questioned continuing at ~11 miles near Radio Towers.
Felt recharged after a little break.

14.32 miles - 12:49 pm
Started with 5.6 pounds of rock solid ice, down to about 10 ounces. Not concerned with ~2.? miles to go.
Not really a big hike. Still cool to have up close Sierra Estrella views early on then Camelback - Four Peaks later on. Almost no one out now. It's just a hundred degrees vs the big bad summer your mother warned you about.
16.29 miles - 1:33 pm
LoLo ROCKS, duh! Considered The Hideout Loop. As with french fries and cheesecake you just need to know when to say when. Especially if you're out of ketchup and graham cracker crust!
Synopsis
Enjoyed portions more than anticipated. Shocked at the number and young hikers out in July. Nearly all vanished after 8am. Gleaned a couple ideas for RS and found a bug. |
