I decided to check out a couple of areas of interest along FR203A on my way home from a six day camping trip to the Sierra Ancha near Bull Canyon. This was the second area and the plan was to find what I call a Google Earth Point of Interest. That's something I've spotted on Google Earth that raises my curiosity. In this case it was a white object near the 4x4 road leading down to the old Sue Uranium mines in Bull Canyon. It also was not far from the Shack Tank and the remains of an old mining camp from the early 1950s. I parked near the tank and first decided to explore up a faint 4x4 track going up the bottom of a drainage past the tank. I spotted fresh tire tracks matching the type of tires on RedRoxx44's Jeep, probably from some exploring she did after leaving our camp the day before. I followed the old track about 0.2 miles up the drainage past the tank to where it faded away at a creek crossing. Back home studying old GE images I determined that this track at one time went all the way up the drainage to where it connected with the old FR203A near the intersection with the Coon Spring Trail #124. Another place to explore on another trip.

I then hiked to the location of the white object seen on GE. It turned out to be an old camper, the type that fits in the bed of a pickup and has a roof which can be raised and lowered a couple feet when parked. Perhaps it was used as a "cabin" by a prospector or hunter. There was a KMLE country radio sticker and a Play It Again Sports, Scottsdale sticker on the back window. KMLE went on air in April of 1980 and the Play it Again Sports in Scottsdale appears to no longer exist. So the camper had to have been placed there sometime after 1980. Looking back at old Google Earth images, the camper is visible back to the June 6, 2007 image. The GE images before 2007, 2003 and 1992, are in shades of gray and white with low resolution but there is a slightly brighter spot of white at that location in the 1992 image. On a previous April 9, 2013 hike in the area I found a mining claim for Bull Canyon #3 posted within about a 100 yds of the camper that was dated Oct 15, 2005. So there has been sporadic prospecting going on up here over the years even though, to the best of my knowledge, all mining at this location ended in the mid 1950s.

Having satisfied my curiosity about the white object but as usual still leaving unanswered the who, why and when, I headed back to the FJ and started the drive home.
